A friend on the Metalmeet site asked me to show how to form a copper vase out of a piece of copper tube.

Putting a rolled edge on the top of the vase

I start the rolled edge by pounding gently on the edge of a round stake.

Once the edge has begun to turn I continue the roll by tapping straight down on it.

At this point I flip it over and support the inside of the vessel edge with a round stake and continue rolling the edge down.

Finally I fold the edge down hard back into the parent material.

2 hrs after I started, I have a nice vessel started. It still needs a bottom soldered on but that is easy. I think I may want to do some more work on the shape another day, so I plan on leaving it open for the time being. You may note that the rolled edge on the original vase is thicker than the one we just did. That was accomplished by annealling the piece and rolling the edge down one more time.

Page 7 will show the final detailing when I get around to it.
