 My Work

"For me, making art is a dialogue with the material and the space. The dialogue may start from an object or an idea, but it is expressed in the flow of the piece. A sculpture is more like an archaeological dig than a transcript; information is layered, the dialogue showing or buried in newer banter, dug up and reexplored, dug up and bent to new ends. In the end we see the overt objects that remain, while their covert genesis textures the recesses, lives in the motivation for the line, the choice of imagery, and the myriad list of reasons buried in the piece .

Above is a simple copper repoussé piece. It combines my woven imagery with a touch of whimsy. A small assembly of bronze framed undulating elements is echoed by a negative space "Moon" which captures the shadows from the bamboo like weft and warp. The use of the negative space is something which characterizes much of my work, especially the large wall pieces. Using the background to good advantage, effectively extends the budget of a project, and allows for more effective use of large spaces.
